Cello; Camerata Guest Artist

Cellist Chia-Ling Chien has been the Associate Principal Cello with the San Diego Symphony since 2009. Chia-Ling was born in Taipei, Taiwan and began playing the piano at the age of six, and cello at the age of nine. Chia-Ling made her first public cello performance a year later at the age of ten, and then followed by her first honor of winning first place of National Taipei Youth Cello Competition at the age of twelve. Awards include four-year first prizes winner of Taipei Cello Competition; second prize winner of National Taiwan Cello Competition; second prize winner of International Taipei Chopin Piano Competition; Best Bach Performance Prize for String at The Corpus Christi International Competition; winner of Cleveland Institute of Music Concerto Competition; Ellis A. Feiman Memorial Award in Cello; Anna Sosenko Trust Foundation Award; Colburn Foundation instrument sponsor.Chia-Ling has performed throughout the United States and Asia. Her festival appearances include Pacific Music Festival; Blossom Music Festival; Aspen Music Festival and School; Sarasota Music Festival; Perlman Music Program; La Jolla SummerFest. She has collaborated over the years with many world- renowned musicians such as Gil Shaham, Itzhak Perlman, Vadim Repin, Augustin Hadelich. Chia-Ling is a graduate of The Cleveland Institute of Music, where she received both Bachelor and Master of Music degree. Her principal teachers are Desmond Hoebig and Stephen Geber.
